Cell Phones and Texting

What is it?

  • Short Message Service (SMS), more commonly known as text messaging, allows cell phone users to communicate with other cell phone users through brief, typed text.
  • Multimedia Message Service (MMS), an extension of text messaging, allows cell phone users to send messages that include multimedia content such as pictures, videos, text pages and ringtones to other cell phone users.
  • These types of messages (SMS and MMS) can be easily deleted, leaving no trace of the message sent, or saved and distributed to other cell phone users.
  • Most cell phones allow users to connect to the Internet, permitting them to access the same applications as they would be able to from a personal computer.
