How do I make it safer?

Monitor webcam use and any posting or exchanging of pictures online.
Check your child's files in "My Pictures" to see what images are being sent, received, and saved by your child.
Set a time every night when all technology should be shut off. Many laptops have built in webcams so if your child has a laptop in her/his room, make sure s/he either closes the laptop at this time or the laptop is removed from her/his room.

Explain to your child that people can save pictures of someone on webcam. Once a picture is sent or saved by someone else, control over what happens to the picture is lost. It is important to be careful when sending pictures to others.
Explain to your child that if someone tries to get her/him to send a picture or to go on the webcam and do things that are inappropriate or seem “weird” s/he should stop talking to the person and tell a safe adult about it.
